Rock Financial and Detroit Pistons Support "Reading Rock Stars" Literacy Program

Auburn Hills, Mich. (Feb 20, 2007) — According to the National Assessment of Adult Literacy, 30 million U.S. adults read at the "below basic" literacy level. This same study found that an association existed between the level of literacy, employment and earnings. With these facts in mind, the Detroit Pistons and Rock Financial are gearing up once again to raise funds and awareness through their annual March is Reading Month drive. All proceeds will benefit the Pistons-Palace Foundation for literacy and education initiatives, so more youth can learn to read.

The Pistons and Rock Financial will sell "Reading Rock Stars" at all Pistons home games beginning March 5 when the Pistons take on Golden State at The Palace at 7:30pm. Available for $2, Reading Rock Stars emit a bright, flashing red light that illuminates the Pistons logo. Each Reading Rock Star also comes with a book mark.

"Literacy has a direct affect on our quality of life in many ways, from increasing our earning potential to being able to enjoy a good book. That's why it's so important," said Rock Financial's David Hall. "We've had huge success in the past partnering with the Pistons to promote literacy in our community and we're looking forward to having our best year yet!"

NBA CARES
Through NBA CARES, the league, players and teams will raise and contribute $100 million for charity, donate more than 1 million hours of hands-on volunteer service to communities worldwide, and build more than 100 places where kids can learn and play over the next five years.
