Rock Financial Rewards Half Court Shot Contest Winner with 50 K
Lake Orion Man to be Presented with $50,000 Check from Rock Financial
AUBURN HILLS, Mich. (May 31, 2007) — During Game Two of the 2007 Eastern Conference Finals, Chris Roumayeh's life changed. Roumayeh knocked down a half-court shot and pocketed $50,000 as a contestant in the Rock Financial "Shoot the Rock" Contest.
At halftime of Game Five on Thursday night, Roumayeh will pick up his check from Rock Financial's David Hall.
"I did not want to miss the lay-up," said Roumayeh, 28 who lives in Lake Orion. "I could miss anything else, but I did not want to miss the lay-up. Once I hit that I kind of calmed down a little bit."
The object of the contest is to make a lay-up, a free throw, a three-pointer and a half-court shot. Prizes are awarded for each basket made, with the grand prize being the $50,000 for the 47-footer from center court. This is the second year that Rock has sponsored the Shoot the Rock Contest.
Roumayeh knocked down the lay-up (as he hoped) but barely hit rim on the free-throw attempt.
"Purely on nerves," he said about the free throw and showed it by knocking down the three-pointer. "Then (I) walked to the opposite free-throw line, threw the ball up a couple times and let it fly."
Roumayeh was the first contestant in the history of the contest to make the half-court shot, inciting an eruption from The Palace crowd. "Oh, it felt great when it left. Honestly, it couldn't have felt better."
